1320 Challenge FAQ

Is the game free?

Yes, the game is free and is brought to you by 1320Challenge

When I download the game, it says I need a new version?

When you download the game, it is in a .zip file (compressed file). In order for the game to function correctly, you will need to extract the .exe (executable file) from the .zip file. Make sure you extract and save the file, if you select open, you will continue to get this error. When you have correctly extracted and saved the file, you will see a helmet icon. Windows XP can unzip these files without any additional software, some of you may need to download third party software. You can find free software to complete this process by using your favorite search engine.

  • How do I stage?

Staging is when you line up your vehicle to start the race.

Usually FWD cars roll out faster than RWD cars and can benefit from shallow staging. This is where you just barely light the staged light on the Christmas tree (the starting lights). This allows you to get a few inches jump on the start, which can have a pretty large affect on your time. The opposite of shallow staging is deep staging.

    What is a FOUL?

A foul is when you launch too early - if your reaction time is less than .500 - you are automatically fouled. The game features a "sportsman tree" for the starting lights.

Reaction time is factored into both bracket and heads up racing - so be sure to practice your timing. You don't have to wait for the green light. Remember, it takes your car some time to get going off the line so even if you take off a little early, you may not FOUL the race. Deep or shallow staging will also have an affect on your reaction times.

    How do I launch?

The more power you have, the more difficult it can be to launch the car properly. If you have too much power, you can easily overpower the wheels and waste your power spinning the wheels rather than moving forward.

To launch, engage the gas and hit the UP ARROW to engage first gear.

How do I improve my launch?

Get good drag racing specific tires. The 555R is a streetable tire designed specifically for drag racing. It features a soft tread rubber compound that is still decently long wearing, so you can mount your drag tires up at home and drive to the strip without wearing them completely out. Most sizes of the 555R feature a special carcass construction that allow the use of lower than normal tire pressures at the strip for extra grip while still allowing safe handling at normal pressures for street driving.

I finish first but it says I lost!?

After you've selected a computer opponent, you'll be asked to enter a dial-in (if you haven't already). If you select 15.8 as your dial-in, and run a 15.7, you will automatically lose the race. This is called a break out. Your goal is to run as close to your dial-in as possible without running faster than your selected dial-in. If both you and your opponent break out, the driver who breaks out the least will win.

    What's bracket racing?

Bracket racing is drag racing with time handicaps. This means that the slower car is given a head start. The amount of head start time is determined by the dial-in times. A dial-in is a time that you think your car will run in the quarter mile. The difference between the two racer\'s dial-ins determines the amount of head start the car with the slower dial-in will receive.

If both racers run their dial-in times, and have the exact same reaction times (the time it takes you to launch the car without launching too early or "red-lighting"), the race will be a tie. Thus, the race is perfectly fair, even if one car is several seconds faster than the other.

Of course, in racing, there is always a winner and a loser. In both bracket and non-handicap racing, the winner is the racer who crosses the finish line first. This is a function of:

Your reaction time + your quarter mile time.

In bracket racing, the catch is that you can\'t run faster than your dial-in time. Even if you smoke your opponent and run a perfect (.500) reaction time, you still lose if you run faster than the time you dialed-in.

    Let\'s go through some scenarios:
    Racer 1 Racer 2
    Dial in: 14.65 16.5 (Racer 2 gets a 1.85 head start)
    Reaction Time: .512 .612
    Quarter Mile Time: 14.86 16.58

Racer 1\'s run: .512 + 14.86 = 15.372 seconds to get to the finish line.
    Racer 2\'s run: .612 + 16.58 = 17.192 - 1.85 head start = 15.342 seconds to get to the finish line.

    Winner: Racer 2
    Racer 1 Racer 2
    Dial in: 14.65 16.5 (Racer 2 gets a 1.85 head start)
    Reaction Time: .512 .485
    Quarter Mile Time: 14.86 16.58

Racer 1\'s run: .512 + 14.86 = 15.372 seconds to get to the finish line.
    Racer 2\'s run: .612 + 16.58 = 17.192 - 1.85 head start = 15.342 seconds to get to the finish line.

Winner: Racer 1 since Racer 2 red-lighted (anything below a .500 reaction time is considered an early launch).
    Racer 1 Racer 2
    Dial in: 14.65 16.5 (Racer 2 gets a 1.85 head start)
    Reaction Time: .512 .612
    Quarter Mile Time: 14.86 16.40

Racer 1\'s run: .512 + 14.86 = 15.372 seconds to get to the finish line.
    Racer 2\'s run: .612 + 16.40 = 17.012 - 1.85 head start = 15.162 seconds to get to the finish line.

Winner: Racer 1 since Racer 2 broke out and ran faster than his or her dial-in.

    Dial-in tips:

The trick is to have a dial-in that you can consistently run close to without breaking out. Remember, you don\'t have to dial-in your fastest time, just a time that you can run consistently. Some racers will intentionally brake or let off the throttle if they are ahead in the race. The idea is to get to the finish line first without red lighting and without exceeding your dial-in and breaking out.

    What's a dial-in?

The elapsed time selected by the driver that is usually the car's most consistent qualifying time.

    How do I use NOS?

1320Challenge features Holley NOS Nitrous Oxide Systems. To use NOS, press the RIGHT ARROW at any time during the race.

How can I make the game run faster?

There is a "graphics settings" button in the race screen just below the left lane timer. You can shut off the various graphics and sound effects to improve the responsiveness of the game. If you're computer was made sometime in the previous century, then we recommend buying a new one: www.dell.com, www.compaq.com, www.apple.com.

Why do people keep asking for my password?

Unfortunately, there are people in the game who have made it their mission to scam others out of their accounts.

Never give out your password to anyone - they can hijack your account.

How do I form a team?

Under the team feature, you can apply for an existing team or create your own. Within teams, the person that created the team is the team leader and he or she alone controls the money in the team bank account. Team members can contribute to the team bank account but cannot take money out of the account.

Teams can use their bank accounts to setup challenges with other 1320Challenge teams.

When are you going to add more cars?

We will be adding parts, cars, and features constantly - some updates will not require a new download and some updates will.
